It's not a freeze, at least not a permanent one.  There is some
pattern matching code which "just" takes a very long time with such a
line.  I sent a message about the problem to emacs-devel because the
delay happens with an Emacs function, not an AUCTeX function.  Let's
see if we can find a cure.
