Right I use it for dozens of function, however it is IMHO difficult to
debug and from comments by Stefan Monnier and RMS itself I understand
its use was advised against if it was included in Emacs itself and not
some private stuff.

Well auctex provides its one filling engine for paragraphs, so in my
eyes it makes sense to modify it and not vanilla fill-paragraph.
