[aspell-devel] New Aspell Snapshot

A new Aspell snapshot is now available: 
  ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/aspell-0.60-20040608.tar.gz

Changes in this release:

   * Added stricter syntax checking when parsing in an affix file.
     Because of this some exiting affix files may need fixing.

   * Merged in Christoph Hintermüller changes from loadable-branch.  
     Which, among other things, added support for user defined filter
     modes.

Major Changes in the 20040531 release:

   * Added support for checking affix flags when creating dictionaries.  
     Because of this some exiting dictionaries will produce a lot
     of warnings about invalid or inapplicable affixes.

   * Added "dict-alias" option for creating dictionary alias.

   * Changed "jargon" option to "variety" which is now a list so that
     multiple varieties can be specified.  The "jargon" option is still
     supported for backwards compatibility.

Major Changes in the 20040526 release:

   * Minor changes in the dictionary format.  Because of this dictionaries 
     will need to be recompiled.

   * Added a mode to the Aspell utility to aid in cleaning word lists.

Major changes in the 20040521 release:

   * Modified standard Cyrillic character sets to avoid marking decomposable
     Cyrillic letters as letters with an accent.  Because of this 
     DICTIONARIES USING ONE OF THE STANDARD CYRILLIC CHARACTER SETS WILL 
     NEED TO BE RECOMPILED.

Major Changes in the 20040515 release:

   * Enhanced-typo analysis so it will work better with other
     languages.

   * Added support for properly merging affix info for duplicate words.

Changes in the 20040511 release:

  * Reworked the suggestion code so that:

    * It is now possible to use soundslike lookup with affix compression 
      by only storing the soundslike of the root word.
 
    * It is significantly faster when dealing with short words.
  
    * Supports n-gram lookup.

    * Provides basic support for suggesting misspellings for
      compound words.

  * Reworked the dictionary format (yet again).  Creating dictionaries
    is now several times faster.

  * Removed support for stripping accents.  Because of this 
    THE ASPELL 0.50 ENGLISH DICTIONARY PACKAGE WILL NO LONGER WORK.  YOU 
    NEED TO DOWNLOAD A NEW ONE FROM  
    ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/dict/en/

  * Removed or renamed some other dictionary options.  Because of this
    the Hebrew (he), Hungarian (hu) and Lithuanian (lt) will need to 
    be updated.  You can find the latest ones at 
    ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/dict/

  * Rewritten SGML filter thanks to Tom Snyder.  It now supports
    skipping SGML tags such as "script".

Major Changes in the 20030424 release:

  * New utility, prezip, which is a rewrite of word-list-compress.

Major Changes in the 20040413 release:

  * Unicode Normalization is now supported as described in 
    http://aspell.net/devel-doc/man/Unicode-Normalization.html

  * Language names can now include a '_' so that the country
    code may be included when it is appropriate.

Important changes that were introduces in the 20040402 snapshot:

  * The format and name of the character set data file changed again.
    The extension changed from .dat to .cset.  The format and name
    should be stable now.

Important changes that were introduced with the 20040317 snapshot:

  1) I decided to name the next Aspell version 0.60 since almost every 
     part of Aspell has been refactored or rewritten to some extent.

  2) Dictionaries and data files are now installed in LIBDIR/aspell-0.60 
     so that Aspell 0.50 and 0.60 can more peacefully coexist.
