[Adonthell-devel] Next steps

Looks like I've been doing lots of stuff lately, just not what I had
planned :-). So here's an attempt at bringing some order back.

The alpha 3 release. I think most obstacles for a release with a
demonstration of the GUI code are out of the way. What remains is the
actual dialogue widget and a dialogue that'll be interesting enough
for people to actually read.

The SDL 1.3 backend. There are some open issues as well. In worldtest,
the per-surface alpha of the shadow does not work. Text input also has
problems and it's not compatible with Windows 2000. It's good enough
to build a working Mac binary for alpha 3, so I think I'll leave it at
that and wait for someone who knows better than I to improve things.

Python 3. I didn't follow this up any more since the last time I wrote
about it. I did however read a little more about Python 3 and I get
the impression that it will not be easy to support both Python 2.x and
3.x. I don't think there would be a problem on the C++ side (maybe
we'd need some conditional code at a few places). It's rather in the
actual Python scripts, where separate versions might be required. And
that's a route I don't really want to go. So no more effort into this
from my side.

With all that out of the way, the next thing I really wanted to work
on is the map editor. And that's what I'll start with today ... more
precisely, the first thing I'll do will be the GTK+ gfx backend. In
light of that, the brief interlude with SDL 1.3 wasn't just an
annoyance, it could also be seen as preparation for the task at hand
:-).
