Thanks, Ed and Andy. I'll look into 5 again. I did install a more recent Kubuntu (oneiric, I think) and 5 was in its repository...but there were display problems with both Xlog and Thunderbird. A T-bird diagnostic identified its problem as my old graphics card --- ca. 2003. It's so old that it's not even on the GeoForce "legacy" list. I went back to Lucid and 2.0.3.On 12/15/2012 10:01 AM, John B. Egger wrote:I'm using 2.0.3 here so perhaps this is no longer pertinent. Xlog set to use Hamlib to pull frequency, etc. from the transceiver. But sometimes I'd like to look at Xlog with the transceiver is off, or be able to enter QSOs when I use a backup transceiver with no port. Can't do it --- Xlog just gives a blank gray screen, and an error box when I try to close it. (Same behavior if the rig is mistakenly shut off before exiting Xlog.) Is anyone else interested in being able to see and use Xlog, even if it's set to use Hamlib but the rig is not on? Perhaps I'm the only user with this issue.HI John,I believe this issue was addressed in a more recent version of xlog. I recommend trying version 2.0.5 or 2.0.6beta. I've done the same thing, used xlog without the rig, with both of those versions, and I didn't notice the issue you mentioned. Please try it and let us know the result. Thanks, and 73, Andy
Time for a new computer! I used to install the latest Xlog versions at once ("configure, make, make install," as I recall, and fetching everything that was reported missing...) but this 2003 hardware eventually put a crimp in that.
I appreciate your replies and will put up with this minor issue until I upgrade the hardware.
