+De Apple Public Source License (APSL) versie 2.0 kan worden bestempeld als een
+vrije software licentie. De advocaten van Apple hebben met de FSF samengewerkt
+om tot licentievoorwaarden te komen die hieraan voldeden. De <a href=
+"historical-apsl.html">eerdergenoemde problemen in dit artikel</a> vormen nog
+steeds een mogelijk probleem voor andere licenties maar zijn niet meer van
+toepassing op versie 2.0 van de APSL. We raden eenieder aan die gebruik maakt
van
+een versie van Apple software onder de APSL om de voorwaarden van 2.0 te
+gebruiken in plaats van eerdere voorwaarden.

+In versie 2.0 van de APSL is de definitie van “Externally Deployed”
+(Extern Toegepast) aangescherpt zodat de vrijheid van gebruikers meer wordt
+gerespecteerd. De FSF heeft altijd op het standpunt gestaan dat de vrijheid
van
+vrije software er juist is voor de gebruikers van die software. Nieuwe
technologiën, zoals web applicaties, veranderen de manier waarop mensen
met software
+werken. APSL 2.0, net als de <a href="http://www.affero.org/oagpl.html";>Affero
+GPL</a>, streven ernaar de vrijheid te waarborgen van gebruikers die software
op
+deze nieuwe manieren gebruiken, zonder een obstakel te zijn voor de privacy of
+de vrijheid deze software te gebruiken.

+De FSF vindt de APSL nu een vrije software licentie met twee grote bezwaren,
die doen denken aan de NPL:
+</p>
+
+<ul>
+<li>Het is geen “copyleft” (auteursplicht) omdat het toestaat dat
+ private bestanden worden gekoppeld.
+</li>
+
+<li>Het is niet verenigbaar met de GPL.</li>
+</ul>
+
+<p>
+Daarom raden we aan geen nieuwe software uit te brengen met deze licentie; het
+is echter prima om bestaande software te verbeteren die is uitgebracht onder
+deze licentie.
+</p>

+We moeten bovendien niet vergeten dat slechts een deel van het Max OS X onder
de
+APSL wordt gebracht. Ook al zijn kritieke fouten uit de APSL gehaald en zouden
+praktische problemen worden opgelost, dan nog hoeft dat geen effect te hebben
+voor het deel van Mac OS X waarvan de broncode niet wordt vrijgegeven. We
moeten
+een bedrijf niet beoordelen op iets wat ze slechts gedeeltelijk doen.
