The guys over at Gnome apparently decided that no one needs these stupid ANSI 
VT-100 escape sequences, so they removed support for them from the codebase.

As a result, our progress bar code ends up breaking slightly when used on gnome 
terminals only. Putting this issue out here as a reference in case someone else 
faces the same problem. I will try talking to the people out there and see what 
can be done about it.
