Follow-up Comment #2, bug #14966 (project synaptic):
I want to support this request. I don't bother to type dpkg -i, but I do
bother telling my wife to do so :)
It would be great if you could tell synaptic to install a package from a file
and if synaptic would install all dependecies automatically.
