I had tried using that switch already, but it woul not give high resolution bitmaps for some images, so it's not really satisfactory. Now I'm using a different OS (Ubuntu) with a deb package of swftools 0.9.0 which works fine. Was just trying to figure out what the problem is so that I would be able to use another OS.

If the package works fine with all PDFs why not compiling it from source?

Appreciate any response.

i had the same problem with a couple of PDF's that were produced by OOo.

compiling the development snapshot (which already is a few month old now) helped on some but there've been others that were only convertible with the " -s poly2bitmap " switch.

try if that switch helps

I've tried to build the 0.9.0 version on debian lenny.
./configure works fine, no missing library.
./make brings all the "warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to ‘char*’" (same in working 0.8.1release, but works fine)
./make check, as written in INSTALL has no targets
./lib/pdf/pdf2swf SOMEFILE.pdf gives:
