CVS is the control version program used to store development files of
SWF Tools. In the very bottom of download page you can find this line:

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:address@hidden:/cvsroot/swftools checkout
swftools

which is exactly what you need to obtain the bleeding edge version of
these tools.

NOPE!
I have tried the CVS version for the very same reason, but I was not
able to achieve any result. As I said in the previous e-mail, AVM2 is
only "faked" and not really supported.
If you load your swf using the SWFLoader from Flex, Flex will think it
is a Flash9 movie file, but you won't be able to communicate with it in
any way since the SWFTools converted movie is actually an AVM1 movie.

If you succeed in communicating with the movie, just let me know :-)
