I am converting the file with the -p option. Should the final size be set to
585x783?

This just means that one of the pages is 585x783- the final SWF can
be larger than that, if some of the other pages are larger and/or
at a different position.

When loading movies, Flash also seems to have problems detecting the
width/height correctly. I think this issue was once discussed on this
list- try to search the archives.
