Hello saum
You can log on as root by typing "root" at the login screen, or by
typing "su" as your regular user.
I don't know much about Ubuntu (but it's a cool name!), but in some
linux distributions you don't actually need to log in as root to
change your screen resolution in x11. Many x11 distributions have
hot-key combinations like <ctrl><alt><+> to do that on the fly.
You're best off asking this in the support group for ubuntu.
If you're not very familiar with linux or unix`, you might be better
off using a more widely known distribution such as redhat, as they
make it easier for a novice to get around.
