vim to emacs?

Hi,

I use vim as my editor for all purposes. I am
comfortable with vim but even i would like to try
emacs for swarm which includes good buffer tools.

I would like to know how to compile swarm programs
with in emacs, how to relate emacs with swarm. What
version of emacs do i need to get? I can already run
xemacs on my RH 8.0.
