Distributed Swarm Intelligence in Action.
If ants can do it, you folk can too.
A "static alphabetical snapshot" of the current online bibliography is to
be seen here,
http://raven.cc.ku.edu/~pauljohn/sdg/biblio/
And from there you can browse and search to your hearts content. This is
created by input from individual SDG members! This current offering is a
static snapshot which does not automatically update to reflect new
records, but making such an update into an automatic thing is my top
priority right now.
Anybody who is an SDG member can go to their personal page, bring it up to
date, and then when the page is redrawn, a button "update bibliography"
button should appear. If you have password trouble, email me.* Follow
that new bilio button and you can input references to things you write,
or references to things other people write. When your personal page is
updated, the things you claim you authored will automatically be
listed. I have tested it by entering about 1/2 of the SDG publications
list that I got from Alex Lancaster. I will eventually finish it, unless
some of you log in and start entering your own stuff!
If you go and see that I've already entered one of your records, you can
go into the biblio tool and "claim ownership" so that item will show up in
your personal page. ALSO, if you email me, I will use the "transfer
ownership" option to put that record under your control for
update/revision. If you see a reference that is wrong or superceded,
please let me know.
I've been using this software a lot for about 9 days and don't expect a
lot of trouble. I am humble, though, and thank James Marshall for testing
and exposing some bugs.
This biblio scheme started with a program called OBAS: Online Bibliograpy
Assistant, but it required a complete overhaul/redesign and so I'm trying
to think of a new name. Two current contenders are "FrankenVita" and
"ResumeBuilder". (The "Resume Builders" were a student political party at
KU that ran for office on the platform stating that student governance is
a joke intended only to inflate student resumes, and it was their turn for
the pleasure! They promised to challenge the chancellor in a game of
Trivial Pursuit.) If you have a good idea for a name, email me.
*In case you try to revise your SDG page and your password does not work,
don't worry, just send me an email. While I was testing some changes last
week I damaged a few passwords and had to reset them. But now everything
is OK!
