Are you running mousetrap from the demo package?  If so, the apps in
that package are built without console support.  This was done so that
if you run them from the start menu you don't get an obnoxious console
popping up with the app.  The downside is that if you run them from
inside a console, there still won't be any standard I/O.  If you build
mousetrap from the swarmapps-1.4.1 source distribution, you'll get console
support.
