Broken Linux Swarm: sendmsg() |

Hi,
If it's not broken DON'T fix it!!
I had SWARM nicely installed on my Linux 1.2.13 box but, for the
sake of an online timer of all things (!!) broke it by installing
libc-5.0.9
CAUTIONARY NOTE: To assist your analysis I have to admit to an
embarrassing typographic error as ROOT.[Aside: I typed 'ld <directory>
instead
of ls < directory> and, tiredness is my excuse, when seeing an a.out
executed it 'a.out -v'. Much disk crunching ensued. I'm including this
tale both to warn tired sys-ops of the proximity of <s> and <d> on the
QWERTY keyboard and to admit that my broken SWARM may not be as simple
as a problematic libc.
To continue. My previously compiled heatbugs works O.K.
If, however, I recompile the code I get a 'Floating Exception' error.

#4 0x1ecf in main (argc=1, argv=0xbffff990) at main.m:19
If I try 'list' I get
sendmsg.c:205: No such file or directory.
After searching the archive I upgraded libc-5.0.9 to libc-5.2.18 but,
after ldconfig of course, get the same error. NB. using -lieee didn't
help either.
Then, to cap it all, I recompiled SWARM with lib-5.2.18 and, although I had
no e
rror
there, when I recompile heatbugs I get:
/user/usr/local/new_swarm/swarm/src/collections/String.m:57: undefined
reference
to `__assert_fail'
When I find / -name sendmsg.c I get nothing and, checking the sendmsg
man page, find that sendmsg is not implemented above Linux 0.99.11.
I am close to that horrible state of thinking that a complete system
reinstall is required. Although it would give me the chance of changing
from a.out to ELF I really haven't the time.
Any suggestions as to how to recover would be most sincerely appreciated.
All the best.
Steve.
