lib dl error linking heat bugs

I am in the process of compiling and building swarm for the first time,
I am having a problem with linking the SwarmHeatBugs sample program:

The problem is a linker problem due to unresolved symbols in 
libtcl (tcl 7.5) The error message is:

/usr/lib/libtcl.so undefined reference to flerror, dlopen, dlsym

I am using a newly installed Slackware system (Linux). Can anyone suggest
a workaround or tell me where I can get a package which supports lib dl? 

I note that there is a dynamic linker (ld.so) library (libdl.so) in
/lib but am not sure if this can be used to solve the problem.

Any help appreciated.
