I believe there's a problem with SBCL 1.0.55 that causes this and or
related errors. I've pinned my system to SBCL 1.0.54 and the compile
works great. Given the monthly or nearly monthly release cycle of SBCL,
bugs tend to disappear pretty quickly, so I didn't give it much thought
and will try again when 1.0.56 comes out, though we can attempt to chase
the bug upstream if you're interested...
