Is this an accurate description of the current state of free social
networking protocol proliferation? If so, by adopting OStatus, does GNU
Social move closer to unifying the free social web?

Personally, I think the author is a bit pessimistic since the Diaspora
people seem pretty pro-GNU Social, but it never hurts to have a
pessimistic viewpoint...
