This line says that you're using the "curl-shim", which actually means
you're not using CURL at all -- it's a less-full-featured http client
built into gpg itself, as a shim for systems which do not have libcurl
installed or available.

Users of debian or debian-derived systems like mint or ubuntu can get
the full-fledged version with:

 apt-get install gnupg-curl

If you find yourself getting another failure like this, could you try
installing the above package and see if the failure repeats?
