>Well, i was asking to use gitorious, not Savannah, as a mirror. If i
>understand you correctly, you're telling me not only that Savannah is
>not a mirror, but also that it cannot (shouldn't) be mirrored (which
>is kind of weird given that we're talking about a distributed VCS;
>but of course GNU Savannah has the right to set the rules of the
>game).

>If that's really the case, i must apologize for having wasted your
>time, and ask you to simply delete Geiser from Savannah (among other
>reasons, i've got users and collaborators that would get upset if the
>project just disappears from Gitorious). I know i should have read
>the hosting terms and conditions before: i'm very sorry i didn't.

>Thanks for your time!

GNU Savannah promotes free software as you see. The problem with
gitorious is than it don't. gitorious promotes open source. We want
to spread the ethical values of free software but open source don't
speak of ethics nor morality. We think Open source misses the point
of free software:
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.html.

Usually mirroring would be a advantage. But If a project is mirrored
outside savannah, and the mirror don't speaks of freedom, then the
user who looks in the mirror instead of in savannah may will not
notice the existence an philosophy of free software and the GNU
project.

I discourage you to using a hosting site than don't promotes free
software but instead promotes open source software or propietary
software, as gitorious does. However, when hosting at Savannah is not
only a discouragement but a requirement for the sake of free software.

You may leave a note in gitorious if you wish, as "The Geiser page now
is in GNU Savannah: https://savannah.nongnu.org/p/geiser, A free
software hosting site.". This will ensure current and future
contributors can still contribute to Geiser. If there are more
problems with the migration we can talk about them and found a good
solution if you wish.

Of couse, the final choise of use or not to use GNU Savannah is up to
you. Please let us know of it, taking the above into account :).
