==== Description: ====
WebAPP is an acronym name for Web Automated Perl Portal. It is a full
featured portal system that may also be used as a content management system
for running a website. The WebAPP development community has been in action
developing the project at http://www.web-app.org/ since early 2002. The
community home page is http://www.web-app.org/cgi-bin/index.cgi. Features of
the WebAPP Web Automated Perl Portal system include articles/news, forums,
links section, downloads section, polls, gallery, instant messaging, anonymous
email, recommend us, send news article, statistics and visitor monitoring,
light formatted page for handhelds, user theme and language selection, menu
management, and many others. There are a wide variety of mods, plugins, and
hacks that have been created for WebAPP to enhance and/or change functionality
or add new features. Themes have been designed by various authors and are made
freely available for use in changing the look to suit the taste of the
individual webmaster. WebAPP uses a language tag system that allows for
translation of all text that is part of the main system, such as tags,
headings, and messages, and language packs are freely available in many
different languages.

WebAPP was originally based on PoaS (Perl on all Site, by Luckie Aria
Argathama) which was in turn based YaWPS (Yet Another Web Portal System by
Adrian Heissler). A large and active development group over the years has
brought about quite a lot of evolution in features and core code design.
