######### REGISTRATION DETAILS #########
Full Name:

Numdiff
System Group Name:
-----------------
numdiff
Type:
-----
non-GNU software & documentation
License:
--------
GNU General Public License V2 or later
Description:
------------
Numdiff is a program, written entirely in C, which
compares putatively similar files line by line and field by field,
ignoring small numeric differences or/and different numeric formats.
The files can also contain non-numerical fields, since
Numdiff can manage them in a suitable way: for non-numerical
fields Numdiff does the usual byte-by-byte comparison.
I wrote Numdiff because programs like `diff', `wdiff' or `cmp'
are not much useful when one wants to compare a couple of text files composed
partially or entirely by numerical fields.
Indeed, when you compare a couple of such files,
what you want to obtain usually is a list of the numerical fields in
the second file which *numerically* differ from the corresponding
fields in the first file.
Numdiff is distributed under GNU General Public License. It contains
code coming from GNULIB and GNU bc, which, of course, are free
software. The accompanying documentation is distributed
under GNU Free Documentation License and it is mantained in Texinfo
format. The building system has been written by using GNU Autoconf,
so Numdiff can be installed through the usual steps: configure, make
and make install. At last, it comes with partial I18N and L10N
support (it relies on GNU gettext), making easy to translate
the messages printed by Numdiff in any language using an ASCII or
ISO-8859-* character encoding. The current snapshot of Numdiff can be
retrieved at the following URL:
ftp://ftp.mat.uniroma1.it/public/primi/numdiff-3.0.tar.gz
Other Software Required:
------------------------
Numdiff can be compiled with support for High Precision
Arithmetic. This support relies on HPALib, a free computational
library currently hosted at Savannah:

None
