Restricted shell is fine.
To answer your first question, darcs 2 over http is just served up by the
webserver. To speed things up over ssh, darcs 2 does offer a server mode
(actually, the darcs command itself), which would be very good to have.
Darcsweb does appear to be a nice product. There is also the trac+darcs
integration :-)
Now, I'll return to the darcs team and see if we can get you a long term
contact and somebody to implement this. We'll keep in touch!
