Hi all,

I just spent a lot of time on the phone with Jörg Schilling who was
quite upset about http://www.freesoftware.fsf.org/dvdrtools/ because
he felt the FSF was officially trying to harm his work on Free
Software.

It took me a moment to explain that this is the project/hosting site
of savannah and that not all projects on savannah are official FSF
projects, which he accepted.

He then complained that Bernhard Rosenkränzer (who runs this project
on savannah) never even tried to help him improve cdrecord or talked
to him before creating this fork, which (in his eyes) showed lack of
manners and was unethical.

Since Jörg Schilling is not the most diplomatic person on earth and
was very, very angry at the moment, I volunteered to ask Bernhard
Rosenkränzer why he didn't try to contact Jörg or what kind of history
this fork has from his side - that mail just went out, so I hope we'll
be able to find a peaceful solution.

This specific misunderstanding/conflict has been dealt with as much as
possible at the moment, it seems.

But if one person misunderstood this, others may do so, as well. Jörg
told me that he clearly felt this was a FSF project since it was a)
under the fsf.org domain and b) the author was using a @gnu.org email
address.

So how many others may jump to similar (false) conclusions and how
many of them will not contact us to allow us to clear such
misconceptions up?

Which (to me) means we should try to prevent such misunderstandings in
the future. Maybe it would be better to find some alternative TLD to
host this? Is there anything else we could do?

Regards,
Georg
