If you believe so (note that I don't dispute your statement, as I
can't possibly evaluate its meaning), it would be better to launch an
organized move to OFTC (or wherever), after some negotiations with
FreeNode, perhaps. For purely organizational purposes, it is best all
GNU projects to be uniform, as far as it is possible.

When Debian moved to OFTC, all their channels moved. And there was a
project-wide discussion prior the move. (I'm not saying we should
mimic Debian, I hope that's clear.)

Of course. But by the same token, we shouldn't strive to convince GNU
projects to move to Savannah...

I guess so. But I also suspect that an IRC client for a regular IRC
user is what an editor is for me. So I anticipate you won't be very
happy as a user to switch to, say, TalkSoup.app, after using irssi or
ERC for years. I think the potential inconvenience is a fact; maybe
not a severe problem, but still a problem.

My intrudence in the thread was merely a suggestion to retry/revisit
the conversation with rms.  Maybe he simply misunderstood the problem;
I know for sure that he is serious about issues of privacy and
security.
