firstly, you never need to "log in" - just start the program and it logs in

secondly, the temporary password is used for adding a new device to an existing
account - you must have a properly configured and running (logged in) instance
of ring to do that

lastly, in order to restore an account, you need to have backed up the
credentials files from ~/.local/share/ring - if ring is not working on at least
one machine and you do not have those credentials files then your account is
gone forever
