I use automysqlbackup (http://sourceforge.net/projects/automysqlbackup/
and also available in many linux distribution package repositories) to
manage mysqldump.
automysqlbackup will backup the database on a daily basis to a specific
folder and will keep daily/weekly/monthly backup copies.
You can then simply instruct rdiff-backup to backup the backup folder that
automysqlbackup uses.
