To adjust ssh I think you are looking for '--remote-schema'
--remote-schema 'ssh -c cipher_spec %s rdiff-backup --server'
If you are using any compression that can chew up some CPU. Also, a
cheap NIC will leave a lot to the CPU. In my experience SSH encryption
is not all that expensive.
