The Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) does not support hard linking. The
target filesystem appears to your computer as an AFP share, not as the
underlying HFS+ system.
If you install rdiff-backup on both computers and use the standard setup
(rdiff-backup /my_files backup.mycompany.com::/my_backup) then hard
linking will work.
