I remember getting errors like these a long time ago.  It was some
really hard to find bug and obscure bug in the way rdiff-backup
buffers various files.

The errors you posted seem to show that an exception was bounced back
and forth several times across the connection, but I don't think it
shows where the initial error occured (you need higher verbosity, 5 or
above).  Anyway I can't tell what this is without more information.
