In theory it works fine.  If you press Ctrl-C or kill rdiff-backup
during a session it will abort, and regress the next time.  Try it on
your system and tell me if you can get an error or mess up the archive. 
Probably not.  Everything works perfectly until you get a false sense of 
security.  :-)
