Nope. Forgot to add how rdiff-backup is run:

rdiff-backup --print-statistics --remote-schema 'ssh -i 
/root/.ssh/id_rsa_rdiff-backup %s rdiff-backup --server' /export/home/kjell-e 
hostname::/disk2/export/home/kjell-e

I.e. - the backup goes via SSH.

xfs on the source-host (running the command above). ext3 on the
destination-host. The source host is a Linux, 2.4.18-SGI_XFS_1.1smp
(which may be homebrewn, don't know). The destination host is a stock
RH8 2.4.20-19.8.
