[rdiff-backup-users] Pruning files from an existing backup

I though that I had seen this question asked before, but I could not
find it in the archives.

Is there a 'proper' way to remove certain files and directories from an
existing backup? I'm worried about destorying the integrity of the
backup if I do some by-hand rm'ing on the target machine.

Thanks in advance.
