What aspect of the cgroup subsystem? Do you mean cgroup-controlled quotas?

cgroup does not imply some specific limit (such as 512M or whatever
you were thinking about), cgroup can control quota settings which the
administrator can set to many different values, certainly allocating
1024M would not be a problem if the quota is more than 1024M + all the
other memory used by that cgroup.

Depends what you (or your administrator) was trying to use cgroup for
