Ah, sorry, I didn't realize. I guess we should cover negative values
then explicitly? Not sure.

"not enough" means "<", but the C expression uses "!=". How about
"backing file size (...) does not match device size (...)"?
Or "does not equal", whichever sounds more palatable.
