I was doing some expansions in configure.ac that broke GNU coding
standards. Now the paths shown by configure are not expanded (they show
$prefix in them explicitly) but it should work ok.

Try this new release:
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/psychosynth/psychosynth-0.1.4.tar.gz

It should work ok :-)
