Nice, I'm sure that knowledge is useful for you to get into the gnupdf library.

Right now we're doing mostly C with a bit of perl/awk/bash for small scripts.

My recommended steps to start contributing is as follows,

1. Get a copy of the trunk
 http://gnupdf.org/Dev:Newcomers#Getting_a_copy_of_the_sources
2. Get familiar with the library
 http://gnupdf.org/Dev:Newcomers#Getting_familiar_with_the_library
3. Read our coding conventions
 http://gnupdf.org/Dev:Newcomers#Getting_familiar_with_our_coding_conventions
4. Look for a "NEXT" task on flyspray, our task manager. (though I feel we need
a human one too :-P )
 http://www.gnupdf.org/flyspray
5. Tell us what task you would like to start, so we make sure you don't get
eaten by the earth along the way. :-)
6. Start hacking !!!

BTW, If you're not familiar with the GNU coding standards,
 http://www.gnu.org/prep/standards
it's not a thing to worry now.

cheers,
and feel free to ask anything.
