I believe it has been resolved. At least I have been able to find:
https://packages.debian.org/sid/parallel
But if you use Debian might be a good idea to praise Ondřej Surý
<ondrej@debian.org> and Rogério Brito <rbrito@ime.usp.br> for their
work and give them a heads up on the new version.
