The directory only contains txt files. Can i skip th grep step proceed further like this e.g;

ls | [ parallel here ]

This is a limitation of Unix - see

can overcome it by passing the filenames using standard input, e.g:

ls | grep -vE '\.txt$' | [parallel here]
