GNU Parallel design decisions

A while back Hans asked me to write about how the test suite works in
GNU Parallel. I did not get around to it then, but this weekend I have
spend writing a document that describes many of the design decisions
taken in GNU Parallel - including the test suite.

  git clone git://git.savannah.gnu.org/parallel.git
  ./configure
  make -j
  sudo make install
  man parallel_design

Are there any designs _you_ would like a better explanation of?
