From my experience i don't like using mosfets this way because the gate can be shorted with drain
for no apparent reason or misuse and this would stress any 3.3 only ic.
Of course this happens mostly with those cheap mosfets that their origin is not
from a reputable supplier.
Transistors are not prone to this failure mode since they are more rugged.
I work now with CHDK and it works fine for zooming and shooting photos.
I just finished programming the ppm encoder board as a general i/o board
which will have 8 more servos, some digital io lines and a CHDK output
(CHDK requires more than 4.5v to function properly)
I will test it Monday.
