Just a minor nitpick: It's much more likely that they were speaking 
Aramaic, as that was the common tongue in the area at that time.  In 
fact, there are parts of the Tanach written in it, and at least one of 
our important prayers (The Kaddish, in its various forms) is also in 
Aramaic.
