Please file a new bugzilla ticket for this -- and for most of the other
items on this list.  I'll never be able to keep track of them otherwise.

I'd want to see more votes for this before I'd write it.  I could see
the "group preferences" dialog supporting multiple groups at once,
though if the groups started off with different settings, what would
the dialog show when it first popped up?

This isn't likely to happen, though there is a ticket for being
able to "group" the newsgroups into clusters, which would serve
a similar purpose.

It's coded to do that, unless it's broken recently.
