Well, I *thought* I had sent an email expressing my opinion against
this, since every other newsreader and mail agent on the planet makes
the <space> key do Read More then go to the next *unread* article/mail
when it reaches the end, but apparently my objection never reached the
list, and I was outvoted anyway.

Now that the new Pan version has the new change in there, too late, I
suppose, so I just went into the code and reverted the change to my
preference. :)  No harm, no foul, I guess, though I'll have to remember
to make this change every time.

I'd really prefer it to be a switchable preference...
