It should be possible to set the list sever to allow posts only form
those subscribed to it.  Of course, that won't stop spammers from
subbing and posting their detritus, though.  However, when a "strange"
(usually one with a load of numbers in it) email address is subbed, you
can be fairly sure it's for spam purposes.

Sadly, all this means more work for list admin.
