I've noticed that for some time, when I start from a console window and thus
get STDERR output. I'm guessing there's an icon that PAN wants to use that
doesn't exist or is corrupt on my Mandrake system, but haven't investigated
since it still works.

I get the "Error reading from socket:..", but don't remember seeing the "MODE
READER" warning, "QUIT failed", or the broken pipe, and PAN remains running.
