Looks like SuSE may have left that one out as well. From my 8.1 system:

address@hidden:~> which vi
/usr/bin/vi
address@hidden:~> ls -l /usr/bin/vi
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            3 2002-12-04 16:54 /usr/bin/vi -> vim
address@hidden:~> which vim
/usr/bin/vim
address@hidden:~> ls -l /usr/bin/vim
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           13 2002-12-04 16:54 /usr/bin/vim ->
../../bin/vim
address@hidden:~> ls -l /bin/vim
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root       980232 2002-09-10 14:31 /bin/vim
address@hidden:~> find / -name vi
/bin/vi
(other garbage left out to conserve space)
address@hidden:~> ls -l /bin/vi
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            3 2002-12-04 16:54 /bin/vi -> vim

So, even SuSE seems to rely on the 980K vim instead of providing a "real" vi.
