Hi...

Many of you may be familiar with newsgroups, such as
alt.binaries.multimedia.anime, which feature exceedingly long message
subjects. I find myself needing to flip the horizontal scrollbar a
lot, when reading a line to see which part it is, to further check
whether it's complete. (I do a lot of scanning with text posts turned
on, and this somehow makes incomplete binaries show up as well, though
I keep them turned off.) Since the horizontal scrollbar does not work
in my current version of Pan, I got to thinking that it would be nice
if I could tell at a glance about the status of binary attachments --
even if I have scrolled over to the right a long way.
One way would be to have the very first column, which contains the
status icon for each message, *not* scroll with the rest of the
columns, but remain visible at all times. (If you've used spreadsheet
software, you've probably split a sheet in this manner, to keep
left-hand columns visible while looking at the rightmost columns.)
Even fancier would be allowing a "split" view, exactly the way
spreadsheets do it, in case somebody wanted to see the Date column and
status icons at the same time. ;)
Another way would be to have headers for incomplete binaries show up
in a different color. Of course, people who don't like this could set
the color to be the same as something else.

I'm going to file this as a suggestion soon, if it hasn't been
already... thoughts?
