Follow-up Comment #7, patch #8827 (project octave):

I thing that the results are correct:

Matlab helps states: (In general, odd, positive multiples of pi map to pi and
odd, negative multiples of pi map to −pi.)

which means that pi, 3pi, (2*n+1)pi (n=1,2....) map to pi whereas -pi, -3pi...
map to -pi which is what is happening. 

I believe your interpretation of the Matlab help is not correct.
